Church Overview
A traditional T-plan kirk, built in 1794 with its distinctive birdcage belfry on the site of a previous church. Substantial alterations and additions to the building took place in 1876-78.
The building has no internal stairs but has six doors and forestairs for the galleries on three sides inside. Its interior has painted plaster walls and timber dadoes, with a coombed ceiling in the sanctuary and north gallery.
The striking pulpit has an hexagonal sounding board, ionic columns on either side and fluted frieze to the rear. The pipe organ is by Walker, moved here from Penpont Church in 1973.
Some very interesting 18th century gravestone and table tombs in the kirkyard outside among many fine 19th century memorials.
The congregation is now linked with that of Millisle Kirk.
