Church Overview

The Church beginnings go back to 1059. The first church was enlarged in 1676 and then in 1784 material was used to build on the present site. In 1891 the nave and galleries were added which doubled the capacity. An extension in 1930 added a chancel and saw the organ moved to the west side. The Chancel incorporated the stone window frame from the Norman church. The church windows date from around 1920-1930 and are dedicated to local coal masters and a Dr Bowman. One window from the demolished St. Fothads church was fitted in 2000.
